Comparison
PraxisCAD vs code-based CAD scripts
Your AI can make CAD in two ways: write a script and run it, or drive a CAD application. Both work. Here is where they differ.
Side by side
| Topic | PraxisCAD | Code-based CAD scripts |
|---|---|---|
| Who it’s for | Designers, engineers and makers. No coding needed. | Developers comfortable with code. |
| Checking the result | The AI renders views, measures and reads mass properties, then fixes what is wrong. | Some script tools can render images; measuring, checking and editing still go through code. |
| Editing afterwards | A normal parametric model: feature tree, sketches and named parameters, editable by hand or by the AI. | You edit the script. Changes mean changing code and re-running it. |
| Output | Precise solids, STEP export, assemblies and 2D drawings. Opens existing STEP and DXF files. | Solids and mesh or STEP export, depending on the tool. Drawings and assemblies vary. |
| Engineering checks | Manufacturability checks for CNC, 3D printing, injection moulding and sheet metal, plus interference and surface analysis. | Whatever you write or add yourself. |
| Privacy | Runs fully on your computer and works with local models. Designs never leave it. | Also local, as long as the script tool and the AI you use are. |
| Setup | Install the app and connect your AI client. | Install a runtime and libraries; no app needed. |
When a script is fine
A script is a good choice for a quick one-off shape, batch generation, or a design that lives in a code repository. If you will keep changing, checking or sharing the part, a CAD app your AI can see into gets you there faster.
